Pinnacle Hearing Centre - Ear Wax Removal

Ear Wax Removal

Earwax production is a natural product of glands in the ear canal and is part of the ear’s natural cleaning and defense system. The amount and type that is made varies from person to person, as well as with changes in the seasons. But it is important to remember that a certain amount of earwax, (aka Cerumen), is healthy and expected.

Normally, the wax dries up and falls out of the ear, along with any trapped dust or debris. Smaller or oddly shaped ear canals may make it difficult for the wax to get out of the canal. This can lead to wax impactions or a build up of wax that can affect hearing, balance, and make the ear feel full or plugged.

Regular use of cotton swabs can also lead to impaction as the tip generally pushed larger pieces of wax further and further back.

Patients who wear hearing aids may experience ringing or feedback in the hearing aids if there is an excess of wax built up.

We offer otoscopy services to determine if wax removal is needed and provide a variety of removal options. This service is available for hearing aid users as well as non-hearing aid users.
